چکیده

A general approach to the non-expansive M band decomposition of finite length signals is presented. The technique is based on linear signal extensions and can be applied to all types of linear and non-linear phase M band perfect reconstruction filter banks. The signal expansion is described by a linear transformation on the input signal and the extended subband samples can be easily found using simple matrix computations.

On reconstruction methods for processing finite-length signals with paraunitary filter banks

New expressions are developed for the perfect reconstruction of the boundary regions of a finite-length signal after subband processing. The time-invariant filter bank is required to be uniform and paraunitary, using FIR filters regardless of phase or symmetry. They accomodate a linear boundary extension in the analysis section, and avoid periodic extensions or storage of extended subband signa...

Processing finite length signals via filter banks without border distortions: a non-expansionist solution

In this paper we introduce a novel and general matrix formulation of classical signal extension methods for subband processing of finite length signals. Considering a paraunitary 2-channel filter bank as transformation cell, this new characterization makes it possible to show that perfect reconstruction of finite signals can be ensured without resorting to extra subband samples; thus, by using ...

Transform/subband representations for signals with arbitrarily shaped regions of support

Transform/subband representations form a basic building block for many signal processing algorithms and applications. Most of the e ort has focused on developing representations for in nite-length signals, with simple extensions to nite-length 1-D and rectangular support 2-D signals. However, many signals may have arbitrary length or arbitrarily shaped (AS) regions of support (ROS). We present ...

Border recovery for subband processing of finite-length signals. Application to time-varying filter banks

In the context of subband processing of finite-length signals using FIR filter banks, a new technique is derived for achieving exact reconstruction when subband signals are truncated to the same number of samples as the original signal. Using a delayed truncation method in the subbands, it is shown that the missing samples can be recovered exactly by inverting small linear systems. Our approach...

An Iterative Method for Signal Extension in Subband Coding

One key problem in subband and wavelet coding systems, is the decomposition of limited size signals. The Wavelet transform is defined for infinitelength signals. In practice we only have finite-length signals, so signals must be extended before they can be transformed. The question is how to extend the signal to minimize signal end effects, or how to find the signal extension that preserves the...
